EDITION TO BENEFIT WOMEN FOR REFUGEE WOMEN

Tereza Cervenova

ALMA ZEVI, in collaboration with the artist Tereza Cervenova, is pleased to present an edition of 30 photographic prints, sold to benefit Women for Refugee Women. Women for Refugee Women is a charity helping vulnerable women throughout the UK, many of whom travelled to escape from oppression, domestic violence and human trafficking. The charity is raising funds to continue their work during the Covid-19 pandemic, providing financial and emotional support to those in need. All proceeds from the sale of this limited edition will go directly to the charity.

Orange Blaze (Volpaia, Italy, 2015) is an image of hope, togetherness and vitality. Volpaia is a small village in Tuscany, which the artist visited in 2015. It precedes Cervenova’s most recent body of work in Italy, which was made during the artist’s residency at ALMA ZEVI in Venice in 2019. The subject is a cluster of Pyromania flowers, often referred to as ‘orange blazes.’ The artist writes:

When we arrived it was siesta and everything was still and quiet, no one in the streets, a strange parallel to the current moment. I only took a handful of images on the backdrop of this medieval stone paved place… this is  an image of what I later found to be Pyromania, or Orange Blaze, reaching towards the sun, while being kissed by bees. Entangled and hugging each other, in a community, together.

Tereza Cervenova (b. 1991, Bratislava, Slovakia) received her BA in Photography from Middlesex University in 2014 and her MA in Photography from the Royal College of Art, London in 2018.
