For his first solo exhibition, Marcantonio Brandolini d’Adda has created a new site-specific installation for ALMA ZEVI Venice. Made over the summer of 2017, this is his largest and most ambitious project to date.
Marcantonio Brandolini d’Adda’s Murano-glass pieces embody excess with their full-bodied compositions, while their extremely visceral surfaces beg to be touched. Their substantial weight gives them an inherent gravity and physical unattainability. A sensitive colourist, Marcantonio Brandolini d’Adda effortlessly mixes vivid glass cotissi, which are attached to the exterior of the works to create a rocky landscape. This landscape is perfectly smooth on many facets, and tantalisingly sharp on others. By re-appropriating cotissi to create new configurations, he thrusts his work into the knife-edged field of contemporary glass.
Marcantonio Brandolini d’Adda lives and works in Venice. His extraordinary output is impressive, only having made his first piece in early 2016. He has exhibited his work previously at the Museo del Vetro in Murano.
This exhibition is in conjunction with The Venice Glass Week.
